This role has a starting salary of £32,512 per annum, based on a 36 hour working week.

Do you have a passion for creating innovative design work for a wide range of publicity material and digital channels? An exciting new opportunity has been created within the council's Communications Team for a Junior Graphic Designer. This is a role in a well-respected public sector communications team working on a range of projects across the county. We're looking for a motivated and passionate designer with at least 2 years of professional experience to join our creative team.

This is a hybrid role with an expectation to be in the office one day a week (Woking or Reigate) to link up and collaborate with the team.

About the Role

The role will involve bringing creative concepts to life across various platforms, from digital to print media. You will be expected to work independently and as part of a team, delivering new and creative ways of engaging with Surrey residents, partners and staff. You will collaborate with the Senior Designer and Content Creator working with colleagues across the Communications Team, with plenty of guidance and support from your team members.

The Corporate Communications Team is responsible for the council's campaigns, printed material and main social media channels, as well as other external channels like newsletters and digital advertising. As part of the team, you will have the opportunity to expand your skills in other areas like copywriting and campaign planning. The team is always looking for new and innovative ways to engage with residents, for example, our Surrey Matters newsletter has recently won the comms2point0 Unaward for 'Best use of email'.

Shortlisting Criteria

To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearly evidence the following:

• Ability to create innovative design work with good attention to detail 
• Excellent knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator/Photoshop/InDesign) and a good knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
• Educated to degree level or equivalent, and have had experience of working in a commercial design studio to tight deadlines and budgets
• Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously 
• Overall team player who enjoys working collaboratively
• An online portfolio showcasing innovative design concepts and projects

Local Government Reorganisation

Surrey County Council is preparing for Local Government Reorganisation which will allow us to implement the Government led policy of devolution, which is all about giving more powers to local areas. 

Currently, Surrey has a two-tier council system, with 11 district and borough councils and a county council, all responsible for different services.
