Skills Bootcamps are free, flexible courses of up to 16 weeks for Surrey residents. Sign up to gain new skills and fast-track your future.

For businesses, it's a great low-cost way to upskill your employees with knowledge to help your organisation evolve and grow in the future.

Courses across Surrey are now live and available through to the end of March 2025.

To take part in Skills Bootcamps, you must:

  • Be aged 19 or over
  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Live in England
  • Meet residency requirements (the training provider can check this)

If you claim Universal Credit, you can apply and continue to claim benefits.

Some Skills Bootcamps have additional eligibility criteria.

How do I sign up to Skills Bootcamps?

We offer Skills Bootcamps in sectors that are crucial to Surrey's future economy.

Course provider: Prevista

Module highlights: A great first step into health and social care, allowing you to gain valuable skills, recognised qualifications, and direct routes to employment, significantly boosting your career prospects in the sector.

Key modules include Introduction to Care, Safeguarding, Emergency First Aid, Person-Centred Care, and Medical Administration.

The program ensures robust training with accredited qualifications, including the Level 3 Applied General Award in Health and Social Care, Level 1 Award in Mental Health Awareness, and Level 2 Award for Emergency First Aid for Mental Health.

Duration: 180 hours

Location: Blended (mix of face-to-face and online)

Module highlights: This Skills Bootcamp offers a clear path to a lucrative and rewarding career in cyber security.

You'll learn to think like a cyber security professional by evaluating threats, mitigating risks, and using various cybersecurity tools - you'll also master the fundamentals of network and system security.

No prior coding knowledge is required!

Duration: 100 hours

Location: Blended (mix of face-to-face and online)

Module highlights: This Skills Bootcamp offers diverse developers the opportunity to get the skills, portfolio, profile and connections to level-up in the games industry. Improve your programming and game engine skills. Build better prototypes. Connect with employers. Support while you interview and negotiate salaries. Mastered will help you all the way.

Course provider: Retrofit Academy

Module highlights: Gain the knowledge and skills you need to assess the energy efficiency of a home and provide recommendations for improving its energy performance. Full accreditation on graduation.

Ideally, you will have experience or interest in the built-environment and housing sector or are looking to make a career change into retrofit.

Duration: 60 hours

Location: Blended (mix of face-to-face and online)

Course start date: July 15 or August 26

Course provider: Kiwi & Yuzu Ltd

Module highlights: This Skills Bootcamp enables learners with at least 2-years' experience in either gas, heating, or air conditioning to upskill to install and maintain air source heat pumps as we move towards Net Zero.

You will be trained and assessed on your practical and theoretical competence throughout the course to ensure you meet the criteria to install and maintain air source heat pumps.

Applicants must be employed or self-employed learners with at least two years' experience in either gas, heating, or air conditioning.

Duration: 60 hours

Location: In-person

Course provider: MIT Skills

Module highlights: These Skills Bootcamps are aimed at practicing electricians wishing to upskill and achieve nationally recognised qualifications in Green Electrical technology.

There are two courses available: Small Scale Solar Photovoltaic Systems and Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment.

Applicants for both courses must hold a current 18th Edition (BS7671) qualification and a formal Level 3 electrical qualification (see entry requirements on website).

Duration: 80 hours (one day a week for 12 weeks)

Course provider: Activate Learning (Sustainability)

Module highlights: Becoming a sustainability champion in the workplace could help your employer to save energy, cut costs, win new customers, and do their bit for the world and local community.

This exciting, ten-week programme covers climate science, carbon footprint, energy efficiency and more!

By the end of the course, you will have the sustainability knowledge and skills you need to create an action plan for the organisation you work with to become more sustainable, all while adding new and progressive skills to your CV.

Duration: 60 hours

Location: Blended (two onsite face-to-face sessions and eight live online tutorials)

Module highlights: This engineering Skills Bootcamp course places a strong emphasis on hands-on activities, exercises, and real-world projects. Participants will engage in practical exercises designed to enhance their proficiency and readiness for the workplace.

It also includes modules on project management, communication, and employability skills, such as CV writing and careers development strategies.

Duration: 60 hours

Skills Bootcamps for businesses

Skills Bootcamps can also be used by local businesses to upskill current employees at a discounted rate.

Large employers will need to contribute 30% of the cost. Small or medium employers (SMEs) will contribute 10%.

There is no cost to a business recruiting someone who has recently completed a Skills Bootcamp.
