WorkWell - free coaching if you have a health issue or disability

WorkWell is a free one-to-one coaching service that helps Surrey residents with health issues and/or disabilities start, stay or return to work.

You could be eligible for:

  • A personalised support plan to help you stay in your job, return to work, or prevent time off due to illness or disability
  • Confidential support from specialist employment and skills advisors so that you can explore new career opportunities in Surrey

Who can apply?

We have paused new referrals from 13 February 2026 but anticipate we will be back up and running later this year.

If you’re worried about how your health is impacting your ability to start, stay in or return to work, WorkWell is here to support you.

To access WorkWell in Surrey, you must be:

  • Aged 16 or over
  • Living in Surrey (or registered with a Surrey GP)
  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • National Insurance number

Who oversees WorkWell?

WorkWell is a joint initiative from the Department of Work and Pensions and the Department of Health and Social Care.

Surrey County Council is delivering WorkWell in Surrey in partnership with local providers of health, wellbeing, employment and skills support.

How long does the support last?

Typically between 8 and 12 weeks. However, if you need longer, we can offer further light-touch support.

How much does it cost?

The service is free.

How do I refer to a WorkWell coach?

You can refer yourself. You can also refer a friend, colleague or family member to WorkWell by completing the short registration form on their behalf.
