Events and activities planned for 5 July event
The Summer Reading Challenge, designed by The Reading Agency and delivered by libraries returns from Saturday 5 July to Saturday 13 September.
The theme this year is ‘Story Garden – Adventures in Nature and the Great Outdoors’. This exciting new theme will inspire children to tap into a world of imagination through reading, exploring the magical connection between storytelling and nature.
Newlands Corner near Guildford is the location for the launch event on Saturday 5 July between 11am and 2pm. This free event is an opportunity to find out more about the Summer Reading Challenge and sign up your children.
Free craft and nature activities will be running along with two bookable events (suggested donation of £2 per family):
Under the Yew Tree guided walk and storytelling with John Kirk
Embark on a magical guided walk through the woodlands, before taking part in a storytelling session with the brilliantly engaging John Kirk, under the branches of the 1000-year-old Yews.
We are Family storytelling with author Lucy Reynolds
Treat your child to a delightful outdoor story time with author Lucy Reynolds as she reads from her book, 'We Are Family'. This heart warming tale celebrates the many ways young ones grow and thrive on our wonderful planet, as well as the shared journey of discovering our true place in the world.
Please book in advance for both these events via the Surrey Libraries Eventbrite page.
A whole host of free nature focused activities will be running throughout the day in partnership with the Surrey Hills Society and Surrey Wildlife Trust.
