Course intent
This course is designed for parents/carers who reside in Surrey with children with special educational needs including autism, ADHD and all neuro-diverse conditions, also for those awaiting assessment or diagnosis
What will I learn?
This course is a FREE three-week online course for parent/carers designed to support neurodivergent parents in understanding and managing their child’s behaviours while considering their own well-being. It provides practical strategies for behaviour management, emotional regulation, self-care, and advocacy, ensuring a balanced approach to parenting.
By the end of this course, participants will:
o Identify common behaviours in neurodivergent children (e.g., meltdowns, sensory overload, communication differences).
o Recognise how neurodivergence impacts emotional regulation in both parents and children.
o Understand the importance of routine, structure, and sensory accommodations.
o Explore different communication approaches,
o Learn self-care techniques tailored to neurodivergent parents.
o Understand the importance of boundaries and managing burnout.
o Explore mindfulness, executive function hacks, and coping mechanisms.
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
This course is for parents/carers who reside in Surrey with children and teenagers who want to understand more about neurodivergence and how they can support their child This is delivered online via Zoom
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
You will need to:
- Have your camera on
- Provide a mobile phone number and email address when you enrol so that we can contact you about your course.
- Please attend all sessions
- A reliable internet connection
- A computer/laptop/tablet or phone with a fully updated browser (preferably Google Chrome), microphone and camera
- A pen and paper
- Check your email for detailed joining instructions two days before course starts.
- Fill out the 'Getting to know you' form and fill out 'Tell us what you think' form

What can I do when I finish the course?
At the end of this course, we will give you details of what you may wish to move on to next, for example volunteering, further courses with Surrey Adult Learning, a college or employment
Additional Information
This course does not qualify for an Education and Skills Funding Agency subsidy, so no concessions are available.
We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. When you enrol, please let us know if you would like to discuss your extra support needs with a member of the Supported Learning Team who will then contact you as soon as possible. If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
