Iyengar Yoga - Improvers

Course intent

Yoga helps build your wellbeing holistically, by using slow movements and poses, with deep breathing exercises, offering physical and mental health benefits. Iyengar Yoga is a precise and careful style of yoga, paying strong attention to correct postural alignment and body awareness. If you have been learning Iyengar Yoga for one or two years, this course will help you develop your practice and learn more complex postures and concepts.

The intent of the course is to develop your understanding and practice of Iyengar Yoga, and using a range of more refined postures, to build strength and flexibility.

What will we cover?

You will learn a range of more refined and sophisticated yoga postures (asanas) in standing, seated and lying positions, and how they work in sequence. You will also learn breathing exercises (pranayama) and relaxation techniques.

Iyengar Yoga is characterised by precision, correct postural alignment and body awareness. The system of teaching Iyengar Yoga is methodical, structured and progressive, emphasising detailed correctness and safety. Using equipment, such as blocks, or bolsters, to assist you to achieve the posture correctly, at your own pace and to suit your body, you will develop and improve your skill and understanding of the postures, and your own body awareness. You will move on to more refined ways of working, as well as more complex postures.

You will be able to practise the exercises at home and fit them in to your daily routine.

Our courses build on past learning, week by week, to develop new skills and abilities. You will find you make the most progress if you attend every taught lesson and complete any self-directed study opportunities provided.
