Drawing & Painting - How to Draw Anything & Everything - All Abilities

Course intent

By drawing Anything & Everything you will develop new skills, feel confident exploring different styles, feel inspired and choose what you might like to focus on in the future. Whether you are a beginner or already have some experience of drawing, you will learn the knowledge and skills needed to develop and expand your range of techniques and design skills, gaining a deeper understanding of the range of techniques and processes.

This breadth of subject matter means you will have a chance to work on subjects that you really like but also means that you will be challenged with new subjects you wouldn’t normally choose.

Enjoy the well-being benefits gained through working in a friendly, creative learning environment

What will we cover?

You will be taught step-by-step with tutor demonstrations of techniques with all learners able to view each stage of a drawing before trying it themselves.

Over the whole term we will draw:

  • Landscapes
  • Figures
  • Portraits
  • Animals and Birds
  • Botanical and Trees
  • Still-Life
  • Safeguarding, Prevent and British Values
  • The importance of a clean and tidy studio

Learners will be inspired by the contemporary and historical context and will need to keep a sketchbook / notebook to record ideas, processes and progress, and the feedback they receive from the tutor.

There will be demonstrations, instruction, one-to-one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques.

To ensure that learners make good progress with their personal learning goals, the tutor will work with the learner to complete the required Individual Learning Plan.

For courses of more than one session, you will find you make the most progress if you attend every taught lesson and complete any self-directed study opportunities provided

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

Designed for All Abilities.

As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

• A pad of paper- minimum weight of 130gsm (not photocopier paper which is 80 gsm) The number is written on the sketch pad, the higher the number, the thicker the paper. You do not need paper heavier than 220 g/m2 if cartridge paper.

  • Tutor uses 300gsm Watercolour paper in case he decides to add watercolour to his drawings at a later date - but a cartridge paper pad would be fine for the drawings.
  • A range of pencils - Tutor mainly uses 0.5mm mechanical pencils - one with HB leads (the leads they all come with) & one with 2H 0.5mm leads (you have to buy these separately).
  • Normal pencils can also be used: HB and 2H. (plus a pencil sharpener & rubber)
  • A range of black fine line drawing pens - 0.1mm, 0.3mm, 0.5mm, 0.7mm (for example)

What can I do when I finish the course?
