Drawing & Painting - Oil Painting - Beginners & Improvers

Course intent

This course will teach you the skills and techniques of oil painting, building your confidence and giving you the opportunity to try a variety of techniques and subject matter. You will have the chance to experiment, be given practical information, participate in group and individual tuition and have step by step demonstrations from our very experienced tutor who is also a professional artist.

What will we cover?

You will learn and practice – mixing colours, what surfaces and mixing mediums to use, how to build up a painting, about good brushwork and how to create an effective composition.

Where this course consists of more than one session you will find you make the most progress if you attend every taught lesson and complete any self-directed study opportunities provided

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course is for beginners to oil painting and those who have painted in oils but would like guidance and tuition. To make the most of this course you should have some drawing skills as a basis.

What can I do when I finish the course?

In discussion with your tutor you may like to progress onto the next term’s course to further develop your skills or join a course to study a different medium.
