The Service has 2 vacancies for the post of Watch Commander Control A (WCC A), on a fixed term contract, working a rotating shift pattern of 42 hours a week including days, nights, weekends and public holidays, within Mobilising Control (MC). We would welcome applications from competent Watch Commanders, developing Watch Commanders who have passed an assessment process within their own service and competent Crew Commanders who have passed an internal development process and are interested in transferring to Surrey.

Annual leave is 23 days (including long service) plus 8 Public Holiday leave days and is incorporated into the current watch pattern

MC operates 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. They provide call receipt, call handling and mobilisation for Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. The primary control centre is located at Salfords, Surrey and the employer for MC staff is Surrey County Council (SCC). A secondary control centre is located at the Headquarters in Reigate, Surrey.
The successful applicant will be expected to work a shift system covering, day and night duties, including weekends and bank holidays. They will form an integral part of a management team whose priority is to lead their watch to receive emergency calls from members of the public, mobilise fire engines and Firefighters who respond to a wide range of incidents throughout the County, including assisting other emergency services and partner agencies. The successful applicant would need to be motivated to lead through change, professional and confident in their role and have a good understanding of the mobilising control environment and the challenges facing fire and rescue services.
