Early years research and consultation

The Early Years and Childcare Service carries out research and consultation activities to make sure that the services we deliver reflect the needs of parents, childcare providers and other partners.

As well as consulting parents and carers, we also consult childcare providers on a regular basis so that we can understand what is happening on both sides. We ask them about a range of topics, including details of childcare staff, their views on the childcare market, and how successfully the early years and childcare service supports them.

Childcare sufficiency assessments

A childcare sufficiency assessment is when we ask parents for their views and map the information we receive about childcare demand against childcare supply, to help us identify gaps in childcare provision so that we can address them. We carried out the last full childcare sufficiency assessment in 2014. Full details are available below.

Childcare sufficiency assessment update reports

We also carry out annual updates, bringing together information we hold from a range of sources to identify possible gaps in childcare provision.
