Accommodation with care and support commissioning statements

Now and in the coming years, Surrey County Council will be required to meet the care and support needs of an ever increasing proportion of our elderly population. It is clear that resident expectations and those of their families and unpaid carers will rightly require us to innovate and modernise our services through maximising the use of public funding in order to provide a variety of options to meet an increasingly diverse range of need.

In response to some of these challenges our Accommodation with Care and Support Strategy sets out the overarching approach for all accommodation based services commissioned by Surrey County Council for residents of Surrey, for 2030 and beyond.

To deliver this strategy we will work with partners to plan for the right types of accommodation for Surrey residents, in appropriate locations, ensuring the safeguarding of our vulnerable elderly whilst maximising opportunities for greater independence.

Commissioning statements for older people's accommodation with care, residential and nursing care

A series of commissioning statements are being developed at a Borough and District level. These will assist prospective developers, care providers and local Planning Authorities by:

  • Stating the implications of Surrey County Council's accommodation with care strategic direction on future developments focused on supporting older people
  • Outlining Surrey County Council's minimal development expectations around extra care
  • Setting out Surrey County Council's current understanding of future needs for extra care housing, residential care and nursing care to 2028 and beyond.
