The highlights of this year's tree planting season
As we approach the end of this season, we have been busy planting tress across Surrey. We have donated and coordinated the planting of trees within schools, local authorities, charities, and community groups across the county, and have facilitated 35 volunteering sessions to enable residents and county council employees to do their bit in supporting Surrey's greener future. Our projects will provide a range of benefits to local communities, including increasing habitat and food availability for wildlife, supporting Surrey's zero carbon objectives, and increasing moisture retention in soils to help reduce flooding.
Some of our highlights of this planting season so far include:
- Planting a new hedgerow at Disability Challengers in Guildford
- Working with over 100 volunteers at Bocketts Farm to plant over 1000m of new hedgerows
- Delivering workshops at ten schools to allow children to plant trees within their school sites
- Planting two wild cherry trees at a private safe refuge for women who have escaped abusive relationships
- Using 42 plastic waste bottles donated in the Merrow bottle drive to create tree protectors – these are now installed on the Downs Link in Cranleigh.
More projects will follow including a new woodland creation project on our tenant farm at Kinnersley Manor Farm in Reigate.
