Health and education support

Other services families may find helpful are:

Before requesting support from Children's Services:

  • Check if current services can meet the child's needs before contacting us.
  • Check if the support they need is on the Surrey Family Information Directory.
  • Get consent from parents or carers, unless it may increase the risk of harm.
  • Check service levels on Continuum of Support to consider if you should complete a Request for Support form. If you are unsure of the level of support required or the next step to take, call the advice line for professionals.
  • Check children's services procedures in the Surrey Children’s Services Procedures Manual

What happens when you report a concern

Reporting a concern can bring it to an end. Anyone can report a concern for a child’s safety or wellbeing.
You don’t have to give your name to report a concern.

When you report a concern, we will:

  • listen to you
  • take your concerns seriously
  • respond sensitively
  • consider any immediate danger to the child
  • talk to the police if it is a criminal matter
  • make enquiries about the concerns
  • develop a plan to keep them safe in the future

Action may be taken against the person causing them harm.

Concerns about someone who works or volunteers with children

The Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) handles allegations against people working with children and young people. If you have concerns, contact the LADO.

Phone: 0300 123 1650, 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday
