Grant information session
We held a grant information with question and answers session webinar on Friday 29 November, from 10am to 11.30am.
This event was recorded, and we hope to make the recordings available in the coming days. The answers to all the questions posted in the session will be compiled and added to this page very soon. Thanks to all those who took part.
Overview
Surrey County Council is pleased to be launching a new grant funding opportunity to strengthen and expand the range of inclusive play and leisure opportunities available to children with additional needs and disabilities (AN&D) across Surrey.
These may be opportunities that are provided after school, at weekends and/or during school holidays. We are looking to fund pilot projects that can run during the period from December 2024 to March 2025 that demonstrate inclusive service provision and provide learning to inform our future Short Breaks play and leisure strategy.
These pilot projects will complement the council's current Short Breaks Play and Leisure schemes. You can find out more about these schemes, where they are in the county and what we mean by additional needs and disabilities, on our Short Breaks webpage.
A key requirement of this grant fund is that all funding awarded to bidders is required to be spent by 31 March 2025. We would encourage bidders to think creatively about how to maximise the benefit from this funding into 2025-26 but are not able to fund direct delivery or costs incurred after 31 March 2025 from this round of grant funding.
Who can apply
We would welcome a wide range of proposals from all kinds of service providers, this could include:
Clubs, schemes and groups who provide structured sport and physical activity opportunities to children and young people.
Youth clubs, holiday clubs, special interest groups, membership organisations, uniformed groups and others who provide structured, community-based activities for children and young people.
Examples here could include entertainment providers, libraries, family centres, and hospitality venues, but this list is not meant to be exhaustive.
Organisations who have the skills, networks and experience to support and sustain the development of inclusive provision for children with additional needs and disabilities.
What it can fund
Costs that can be covered by the grant might include any revenue expenses that are reasonably incurred in supporting the development of the inclusiveness of provision. Some illustrative examples include:
- staff training and support around inclusivity
- small purchases of practical resources and consumable equipment (typically with a lifespan of less than five years and must be below the total value of £10,000)
- additional staff salaries and associated costs
- costs associated with events
This funding is not available for capital costs, such as:
- new buildings or repairs / refurbishment work
- large items of outdoor or indoor play or leisure equipment
- long-lasting technology purchases
- vehicles
