County of Care Community Partnerships

Surrey County Council’s County of Care is a community-driven initiative that invites local organisations, venues, charities, and businesses to support foster carers and the children they care for. Whether you run a café, library, theatre, sports club, or place of worship, you can play a vital role in creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for foster families in your community.

What is the County of Care?

The Circle of Care builds on the national Fostering Friendly scheme by expanding the invitation to all types of community-based organisations. The goal is to create a network of local hubs that actively support fostering in Surrey. With over 1,000 fostering households needed across the county, this initiative helps ensure children can remain close to their schools, friends, and support networks.

How it works

Becoming a Community of Care Partner is simple and flexible. You can choose how you want to contribute based on your space, resources, and values. Examples of support include:

  • Offering free or discounted venue space for fostering events or training.
  • Providing small discounts or perks to foster families.
  • Donating prizes or experiences for appreciation events.
  • Sharing your time, services, or staff skills (e.g., catering, art, wellbeing).
  • Displaying fostering awareness materials in your venue.

Surrey County Council will work with you to tailor your involvement and ensure it feels manageable and meaningful.

Why join?

By joining the Circle of Care, your organisation will:

  • Be recognised as a socially responsible and inclusive community hub.
  • Receive public recognition through Surrey County Council’s communications.
  • Gain visibility during campaigns like Foster Care Fortnight.
  • Connect with other like-minded community partners.
  • Receive a welcome pack including a window badge, framed certificate, digital badge, and a personal thank-you letter.
  • Be invited to special events celebrating your contribution.

This is a long-term investment in community spirit and in the futures of children in care.

Additional resources

Surrey County Council also offers access to:

  • Community Matters: A news hub showcasing local partnerships and initiatives.
