About the Surrey Careers Hub

In September 2023, the Surrey Careers Hub transitioned to sit directly within Surrey County Council, creating a unified service across the county.

This exciting move allows all schools, colleges, special schools, and alternative provisions in Surrey to collectively participate in a single county-wide Careers Hub for the first time.

As one of the 47 Careers Hubs across England, the Surrey Careers Hub works with 93 schools, colleges, employers, training providers, and partners to deliver consistent, high-quality careers programmes aligned with the Gatsby Benchmarks.

The Surrey Careers Hub helps to:

  • improve careers education
  • ensure a consistent and high-quality careers programme for all young people
  • enable schools and colleges to access careers training and support
  • make it easier for schools and colleges to prepare young people for their best next steps

Our dedicated team partners with The Careers and Enterprise Company (CEC), England's national body for careers education, to support schools and colleges in delivering modern, 21st-century careers education.

With a growing network of over 4,500 schools and colleges, more than 4,500 Enterprise Advisers, and more than 400 Cornerstone Employers, the CEC Careers Hubs work with secondary schools, colleges and employers to improve careers education and secure better outcomes for young people.

What should we know about you?

I'm passionate about driving sustainable system change in careers provision in Surrey, creating the vision and strategy for the Careers Hub, and building strong foundations with all stakeholders.

Before growing up, what did you want to be?

My mother was a Headteacher, and I wanted to be a teacher too. She gave me interesting career advice: "Go and do something else first, and you'll bring a different life experience into the classroom when you get there." I'm still enjoying doing the 'something else first!'

Name: Ladi Mohammed

Email: ladi.mohammed@surreycc.gov.uk

What should we know about you?

I support our Alternative Provision institutions and employer engagement, manage our fabulous Enterprise Coordinators, and ensure the smooth running of the hub.

Before growing up, what did you want to be?

I wanted to be a doctor to please my father. But after I fainted trying to dissect a pig's eye, I realised my dad's goal of me being a world-renowned surgeon would have to fall on someone else!

Name: Tracey Haigh

Email: tracey.haigh@surreycc.gov.uk

What should we know about you?

Having previously been a Careers Leader, I love meeting the Careers Leaders in my new caseload. I bring all stakeholders together to improve outcomes for the young people who often get left behind, helping to create a community of inclusion!

Before growing up, what did you want to be?

I thought about being a nurse, but after work experience at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham on the renal failure ward, I realised I didn't want to be a nurse at all! I actually wanted to work with children with learning difficulties / physical disabilities.

Name: Ellie Smith

Role: Enterprise Coordinator

Region: East Surrey - including Reigate & Banstead, Mole Valley, Tandridge and Epsom & Ewell

Email: ellie.smith@surreycc.gov.uk

What should we know about you?

I'm excited to expand my employer network, enhancing connections between education and employment. Contextualising careers within each subject increases student engagement, particularly for the more hard-to-reach young people!

Before growing up, what did you want to be?

I wanted to be a footballer, but unfortunately, at that time, it was not a viable career for a woman; luckily, things have changed now! I may not be scoring alongside the Lionesses, but I am still a football coach!

Name: Georgia Spiteri

Role: Enterprise Coordinator

Region: South West Surrey - including Guildford, South West Surrey, Woking

Email: georgia.spiteri@surreycc.gov.uk

What should we know about you?

Employers can become great role models for young people, enabling them to think: if they can do it, so can I! Meeting a range of diverse employers encourages young people to expand their ambitions; this is especially important for students who don't have their own networks. I love being part of making this happen.

Before growing up, what did you want to be?

At school, I was voted most likely to be Prime Minister. It's safe to say I enjoy careers far more than politics!

Name: Rosie Roberts

Role: Enterprise Coordinator

Region: North Surrey - including Esher & Walton, Runnymede & Weybridge, Spelthorne and Surrey Heath

Email: rosie.roberts@surreycc.gov.uk

What should we know about you?

Work experience was valuable to me; it taught me so much and brought me out of my comfort zone. It sparked my ambitions, giving me insight into an industry I was interested in. I believe that every young person should have the opportunity to experience the world of work, to help them make decisions.

Before growing up, what did you want to be?

Cabin Crew, but unfortunately, my ears don't pressurise well during landing, so that would have been a painful job (literally!)
