About the Surrey Careers Hub

In September 2023, the Surrey Careers Hub transitioned to sit directly within Surrey County Council, creating a unified service across the county.

This exciting move allows all schools, colleges, special schools, and alternative provisions in Surrey to collectively participate in a single county-wide Careers Hub for the first time.

As one of the 44 Careers Hubs across England, the Surrey Careers Hub works with 95 schools and colleges to deliver consistent, high-quality careers programmes aligned with the Gatsby Benchmarks.

The Surrey Careers Hub helps to:

  • improve careers education
  • ensure a consistent and high-quality careers programme for all young people
  • enable schools and colleges to access careers training and support
  • make it easier for schools and colleges to prepare young people for their best next steps

Our dedicated team partners with The Careers and Enterprise Company (CEC), England's national body for careers education, to support schools and colleges in delivering modern, 21st-century careers education.

With a growing network of over 4,500 schools and colleges and more than 4,500 Enterprise Advisers, the CEC Careers Hubs work with secondary schools, colleges and employers to improve careers education and secure better outcomes for young people.

Before growing up, what did you want to be?

My initial goal of being Peter Pan proved to be impractical. I then aspired to be a forensic scientist, although I didn't know how to go about it. I'm still not sure what I want to be when I grow up, but I love the variety of local government and am a firm supporter of squiggly careers.

What should we know about you?

Having previously been a Careers Leader, I love meeting the Careers Leaders in my new caseload. I bring all stakeholders together to improve outcomes for the young people who often get left behind, helping to create a community of inclusion!

Before growing up, what did you want to be?

I thought about being a nurse, but after work experience at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham on the renal failure ward, I realised I didn't want to be a nurse at all! I actually wanted to work with children with learning difficulties / physical disabilities.

What should we know about you?

I’ve worked with schools, colleges and training providers to overcome the challenges and barriers our young people face in accessing opportunities into the world of work. I'm passionate about linking employers to the education system embedding work experience opportunities to empower young people, especially our underserved cohort helping them make informed choices for their future.

Before growing up, what did you want to be?

I wanted to be an engineer and work for my dad’s business. Unfortunately, women in engineering was not an option. So, I’m glad I can advocate for their voices!

What should we know about you?

Employers can become great role models for young people, enabling them to think: if they can do it, so can I! Meeting a range of diverse employers encourages young people to expand their ambitions; this is especially important for students who don't have their own networks. I love being part of making this happen.

Before growing up, what did you want to be?

At school, I was voted most likely to be Prime Minister. It's safe to say I enjoy careers far more than politics!

What should we know about you?

Work experience was valuable to me; it taught me so much and brought me out of my comfort zone. It sparked my ambitions, giving me insight into an industry I was interested in. I believe that every young person should have the opportunity to experience the world of work, to help them make decisions.

Before growing up, what did you want to be?

Cabin Crew, but unfortunately, my ears don't pressurise well during landing, so that would have been a painful job (literally!)
