Guildford in Bloom achievement
Surrey Adult Learning participated in Guildford in Bloom thanks to the effort of Supported Learning Assistant, Andree Moffitt, who kindly volunteered to look after the Guildford Centre garden over two years ago and takes a keen interest in maintaining the patio garden area which is a relaxing, peaceful spot.
Andree is a valued and respected member of staff who has worked for twelve years at the Guildford Centre and currently supports the teaching of Cookery and Textile courses for learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Andree used herbs which could be used in Cookery lessons, and a stunning range of floral colour to create a bright composition in the space. A beautiful sculpture was donated by local artist Will Lawrence, who is also a tutor with SAL and ceramics from Supported Learning classes give the area a unique feeling.
This year 257 entrants took part in Guildford in Bloom. The nine categories ranged from allotments and kitchen gardens, to neighbourhood projects and wildlife spaces, horticulture and front gardens.
Andree entered the SAL garden into the Guildford in Bloom competition under the community garden category and was proud to be awarded the Silver Gilt prize. The award is featured in the reception of the Guildford Centre and also in the coffee lounge.
Andree has received many compliments from SAL learners and staff alike, who benefit from the serenity of this peaceful place. SAL would like to thank the hard work of our tutors, assistants and volunteers who ensure the smooth delivery of our classes and rewarding learning experiences.
