Network Rail Staines iron bridge refurbishment

General information

You can find out more about Networks Rails plans and keep up to date with the project on Network Rails dedicated webpage.

The Iron Bridge supports the railway between Staines and Wraysbury on the line to Windsor and Eton Riverside, crossing the A308 road and two footpaths.

The timber supports for the track are approaching the end of their operational life and need to be replaced. The height of the bridge also needs to be improved to cut down on instances of large vehicles striking the structure.

Between Tuesday 8 February and Friday 29 April 2022 engineers will replace the metallic superstructure, the timber supports and ballasted deck of the bridge.

Road closures

To complete this vital work, two road closures will be required.

On Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 March there will be a full road closure of the A308 while engineers work on supporting structures for the bridge.

This will be followed by a full road closure, for 19 days, from Monday 21 March to Friday 8 April 2022.

Impact on train services

Trains will remain running during this period except on the below dates when South Western Railway (SWR) services between Staines and Windsor & Eton Riverside will be replaced by buses.

  • Wednesday 2 March 2022
  • Saturday 5 March to Sunday 6 March 2022
  • Saturday 26 March to Sunday 27 March 2022
  • Sunday 10 April to Monday 11 April 2022
