Would your child like to learn a new sport?
The Specsavers Surrey Youth Games is traditionally the South-East's largest event of its kind. Created for six to 16 year olds who aren't members of any sports club, and those who would like to get more active, the multi-activity event is back for 2022. And the best bit? It's free.
Designed for beginners
The games aren't for those who regularly get to play sports outside school. Instead, they're designed for children who might not normally get the opportunity to join a traditional sports club.
Borough and district councils across Surrey offer six to eight weeks of free, inclusive training at local venues, with sessions typically kicking off after Easter.
A celebratory event is then held at the Surrey Sports Park in June at which young people get to show off their new-found skills in front of their families. As it's a beginners' event, the emphasis is on learning and participating rather than competition. This year, the event will be held on Saturday 18 June.
Depending on age, parents can sign their children up for girls' football, street basketball, inclusive dance, judo, tennis and GoTri (a combination of an indoor rowing, cycle and an outside run).
Registration open
Registration will open by Tuesday 8 March. To find out more about the games and age ranges for the activities on offer, visit the Active Surrey website.
