The Coronation Big Lunch

A time to come together and celebrate

This year the annual Big Lunch will be celebrated on the King's Coronation weekend from 6 to 8 May. Those that can't take part in May are invited to join the fun in June, with a Big Lunch to bring their community together and support great causes, as part of the Month of Community.

From a cuppa with a neighbour to a full-blown street party, the annual event will bring millions together in their communities to celebrate. In 2022, 17.2 million people took part in The Big Jubilee Lunch, as part of the official celebrations for our late Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

In Surrey our goal is to 'Leave No One Behind' and give every resident an opportunity to be involved, to empower communities and, as a result build healthier, safer, and greener places to live.

The most valuable and powerful thing we have is our communities and the Coronation Big Lunch provides the perfect opportunity to celebrate that, and let's face it who doesn't like to have a great lunch and a good natter with friends!

How can you take part?

There are many ways in which you can take part in the King's Coronation celebrations from 6 to 8 May. Read below to find out more.

Street parties

If you're thinking of organising a street party or an event you will need to submit an application. This is not done via Surrey County Council, but via your local district and borough council.

Each council has different deadlines for applications, so please check their individual web pages. Most deadlines for the weekend of The Coronation 6 to 8 May are between now and the first week of April.

For more information on street closure applications visit the King's Coronation web page.

The Big Lunch

Once you have received approval for your street closure you can begin to plan your street party. You can request your free Big Lunch pack, which is full of tips and resources to help you plan your street party, on the Eden Project web page.

The Coronation map

If you are hosting an event you can add it to the newly launched Coronation map or type in your postcode to see what's going on in your local area.

The Big Help Out

To mark the King's Coronation, thousands of organisations across the country are getting together to give us all the chance to help out in our own local communities

Starting on Monday 8th May there will be opportunities for everyone to join in and volunteer. From checking in on someone who'd like a bit of company or volunteering for a charity the more of us who join in, the bigger help we will be.
