Join our travel assistance under-16 application form user testing group

Are you a parent or carer of a school-aged child or young person with an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) who has experience of applying for transport for them?

We are looking for up to ten families to help test and build a new home to school travel assistance application form for children aged 5 to 16 years. We want to capture feedback from parent/carers to ensure the form is clear and easy to understand.

The new form is being developed to improve the application process for parent/carers to make it more streamlined.

To be considered your child(ren) may already use transport or you may have recently been through the application process.

What will be involved?

If you are selected to become part of the user testing group, you will:

  • initially be offered a short introductory call to meet the people involved in the Surrey County Council (SCC) Transport team. This will give you a chance to ask any questions and confirm you want to go ahead.
  • be given access to the draft application form which you will be asked to try out and give feedback on.
  • join 2-3 calls online with the SCC Transport team to discuss possible improvements and guidance that might help other parent/carers. These will be arranged on Teams at a time and day that suits you, starting from end June 2025, over a period of 2 to 3 weeks.

Why should I get involved?

The Surrey School Travel and Assessment Team acknowledge that this is a significant commitment and appreciates that parent/carers have many demands on their time. By taking part, you are:

  • helping to ensure the new application form reflects what parent/carers truly need by sharing your views and priorities.
  • Supporting the Surrey School Travel and Assessment Team in testing the application form’s usability, allowing any issues to be identified and resolved before it goes live.
  • contributing to making the application form accessible and user-friendly, so it’s easy for all parents and carers to navigate.

Following this trial and early development based on your feedback, all families in Surrey will have access to the application form once it goes live.

Register your interest

You can register your interest by filling in the short application form on the Surrey Says website.

The Surrey School Travel and Assessment Team will review and manage all the submissions to ensure that the user group is made up of participants that are representative of our parent/carer community.

For those who are not selected, we will be in touch with further opportunities to join improvement work in the near future.
