What we do
Our job is to support you!
An Educational Psychologist (or EP for short) works with you, your teachers and your parents or carers. We use ideas from psychology to help make things better at school or with learning.
Our job is to help the people around you understand what works best for you - what you're great at, what helps you learn, and what might be tricky.
We believe in listening, working together, and making sure everyone feels included and supported. Our goal is to help you feel happy and do your best.
What will happen?
It can be difficult to talk to someone new, but we will try to make you feel comfortable.
You don’t have to work with us if you don’t want to, but we would like to hear what you have to say. You can ask someone to be with you if that would help.
We will let you know how long we will spend together, and you can ask for a break or to stop at any time.
We might come into your school or education setting, visit you at home or speak to you via a video call.
Things we might do:
- Spend some time in your class to see how you are getting on.
- Talk about what you like and dislike, what you are good at or find hard and what you would like to change
- Ask you about what is important to you, what you think might help and what your hopes for the future are
- Play some games
- Draw
- Do some activities or puzzles
- Look at some books
- Fill out some questionnaires
- Meet with your parents or carers, teaching staff or other adults who know you well.
What will happen next?
When I meet with your family, teachers or other adults who know you well, we will make an action plan to support you.
I may write a report about what you have told me and what I think will help. Sometimes your teacher keeps a record of the meeting and our action plan.
We will ask you what you thought about working together.
If you have any questions about our work together, please let your EP, teacher or family know, or contact us.
