New Road (A248) Chilworth

Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order 2023

On 17 May 2023 Surrey County Council made the above-mentioned Temporary Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to prohibit vehicles from entering or proceeding in that length of New Road (A248) Chilworth that is crossed by the level crossing known as "Chilworth Level Crossing" and for a distance of 20 metres on either side.

Alternative Route – (A248) Dorking Road, Chilworth Road, The Street, Sherbourne, (A25) Shere Road, (A25) Epsom Road, (A246) Epsom Road, Waterden Road, York Road, Onslow Street, (A281) Milbrook, Quarry Street, Shalford Road, The Street, (A248) Kings Road, and New Road or this route in reverse.

The Order is required to facilitate auxiliary maintenance works to be carried out by, or on behalf of Amberon within the length of roads described in this notice. These works are anticipated to take place on 10 June for a period of 3 nights between the hours of 11pm and 6am and on 10 November for a period of 8 nights between the hours of 11pm and 6am within the 18 month period of operation of this Temporary Traffic Order which commences on 10 June 2023.

Advanced warning signs will be displayed and the temporary closure, which is anticipated to be in force 24 per day, will only operate when the relevant traffic signs are displayed. Access for emergency services will be maintained at all times to premises within the affected length of road. Access for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained via the operatives on site.
