Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order 2023

On 22 November 2023 Surrey County Council made the above mentioned Temporary Traffic Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to prohibit vehicles from entering or proceeding in that length of Chessington Road (C164) West Ewell as extends from its junction at the roundabouts with (B284) Chessington Road and (B284) Hook Road to its junction with the county boundary line between Surrey County Council and The Royal Borough of Kingston.

Alternative Route: From the West: Moor Lane, Church Lane, Garrison Lane, (A243) Leatherhead Road, (B280) Rushett Lane, (B280) Christ Church Road, Horton Lane, and (B284) Hook Road. From the East: (B284) Chessington Road, (B2200) Chessington Road, (B2200) London Road, (A240) Ewell By-pass, (A240) Kingston Road (15"3 Height Restriction), and (B284) Ruxley Lane. From the North: (B284) Ruxley Lane, (A240) Kingston Road (15"3 Height Restriction), (A240) Ewell By-pass, (B2200) London Road, (B2200) High Street, (B2200) Spring Street, (B2200) Chessington Road, and (B284) Chessington Road.

This Order is required to facilitate carriageway surfacing, highways improvements and/or maintenance works by, or on behalf of Surrey County Council. These works are anticipated to be carried out as soon as possible, between the hours of 9pm and 6am within the 18-month period of operation of this Temporary Order that commences on 4 December 2023.

Advanced warning signs will be displayed and the temporary closure, which is anticipated to be in operation 24 hours per day, will only operate when the relevant traffic signs are displayed. Access for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times. Access to premises within the affected length of road including access by emergency vehicles to these properties will be maintained only when safe to do so, if necessary, via the diversion route. All other traffic will be required to use the signed diversion route. During certain phases of the works, vehicular access to premises may be restricted, when this is the case such restriction of access will apply for no more than eight hours within any 24-hour period.
