We are currently preparing the Surrey Minerals Plan which will replace the Surrey Minerals Local Plan 1993. The programme is set out in the Minerals and Waste Development Scheme (see Find out more below); email updates are issued from time to time.
The purpose of the minerals plan is to ensure Surrey can meet its requirements for minerals in the most sustainable way, and to set the framework and policies within which future planning applications for mineral development will be considered.
In 2006, consultation took place on the first stage of the draft plan, the Surrey Minerals Plan Preferred Option, which covered the Core Strategy, Primary Aggregates and Development Control policy aspects of the plan. The documents prepared at that time can be found on Surrey Minerals Plan - Preferred Option 2006 and the report on the outcome of the consultation can be found on Surrey Minerals Plan - Consultations.
Subsequent advice on the role and function of the core strategy meant a second round of consultation was necessary to consider the approach being proposed towards mineral development for:
silica sand, brick clay, oil and gas and other minerals;
and related development such as:
rail aggregate depots and aggregate recycling centres.
Details of this consultation can be found on Surrey Minerals Plan - Preferred Option 2008.
