Who to contact about the Historic Environment Record

Disruption to our usual services

Some of the services provided by the Historic Environment Record (HER) team are currently or will be disrupted in the coming months, as the team and all HER materials are relocated out of Quadrant Court, Woking.

The office will be closed to staff and members of the public from 01 May until at least 26 May 2025 whilst the office relocation is undertaken, so it will not be possible to arrange visits to the HER for meetings or to view HER material. Please do not send enquiries or other documents to the HER by post for the same reason.

The HER team will be working from home with limited access to office-based resources (grey literature, published materials, and the physical archive). As a result, we may not be able to fulfil enquiries that require such resources throughout April, May, and June 2025. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

The HER remains contactable, other than by post, and can continue offering most of its usual search and enquiry services with some limitations to the information we are able to access.

If you have any questions about the Historic Environment Record (HER), please use one of the following means of contact:

Email: her@surreycc.gov.uk

Mobile: 07816 250026

The preference is for all correspondence to be sent via email. Requests for HER searches or information about Surrey's historic environment can also be submitted using our Surrey Historic Environment Record enquiry form.

To report a small find, please contact the Portable Antiquities Scheme Finds Liaison Officer for Surrey by telephone on 07968 832740, or write to the following address: Surrey History Centre, 130 Goldsworth Road, Woking, Surrey, GU21 6ND.

The Portable Antiquities Scheme is a voluntary scheme to record archaeological objects found by members of the public in England and Wales.
