Queen's Royal West Surrey Regiment Rough Register of Recruits 1914-1917

SHC ref QRWS/1/3/3

This register is a rough recruitment register recording recruits who appear to have enlisted mainly at Guildford. The register usually gives the recruit's name, age, and date of enlistment. General service recruits were expected to serve for the duration of the war, but the register records them agreeing to serve for either one or three years. Unfortunately the battalion is not specified, but comparison with the medal roll index cards and Commonwealth War Graves Commission online register suggests they served with 1st, 2nd, 6th, 7th and 8th Battalions of the Queen's, which includes the Service Battalions raised in Guildford in 1914.
