The reasons why we use your personal data

This privacy notice applies to the operation of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras at Surrey County Council Community Recycling Centres (CRCs).

What processing of personal data is undertaken by the service

Your personal data is collated for the purposes set out below:

  • Service delivery
  • Service improvement and planning
  • Prevention & detection of misuse by trade users
  • Statistical analysis and reporting

What information do we collect?

  • Vehicle registration number
  • Date of visit
  • Time of visit
  • Site visited

How we are allowed to use your personal data

We use the data in connection with a legal obligation or public task under various UK legislation including but not limited to:

  • Local Government Act
  • Environmental Protection Act 1990

Consent

In accessing a Surrey County Council CRC equipped with ANPR cameras, you consent to the collection and processing of the data described above. Two CRCs, namely Bagshot and Warlingham are not equipped with ANPR cameras and you may elect to use these facilities should you object to collection and processing of the data. However, these sites do not accept residual waste.

You have the right to remove the data at any time however this will mean that, if you have a van permit, your permit will no longer be valid and you will not be able to access any of our community recycling centres with a van, pickup or trailer. Who we share your personal data with

Your personal data collected through the use of ANPR cameras will not be shared with third parties other than if required to do so by Law or if requested by law enforcement agencies pursuant to a criminal investigation.

Personal data being sent or processed outside of the UK and EU

Personal data is not processed outside the UK/EU.

Retention of data

Data will be retained for a maximum of 24 months.
