The reasons why we use your personal data
This privacy notice applies to the functions of the Environment Service relating to the Tree Planting Programme as part of Surrey County Council's Tree Strategy.
What processing of personal data is undertaken by the service
Your personal data is collated for the purposes of tracking and commemorating where new trees have been planted as part of our 1.2 million new trees initiative. In addition, we collect your personal data for the following:
- statistical analysis and reporting
- volunteering opportunities
- communications on progress

- First name or organisation name
- location
- email address
When you submit a photograph of your planting, we ask for your consent to display this on our website using the form.
How we are allowed to use your personal data
Consent
To process your personal data, we will explain to you what we are asking you to agree to and why. If we have consent to use your personal data, you have the right to remove it at any time. If you want to remove your consent, please contact us at the following email address trees@surreycc.gov.uk and we will deal with your request.
Who we share your personal data with
The Natural Capital Land Services Team will contact you concerning data submitted if required, in order to validate your records. Your first name or organisation name, along with the location and photograph of your tree(s) will be displayed on the public map once approved by a member of the team.
Retention of data
Data will be retained in accordance with the countywide data retention schedule.
