The reasons why we use your personal data

This privacy notice applies to the functions of the Greener Futures Climate Change Team and in particular the collection of personal information to support the establishment of a Community Benefit Society to facilitate Community Energy Projects in Surrey.

Surrey residents and other people with a local connection to Surrey are invited to register their interest to become members of a Community Benefit Society (CBS) to generate renewable energy across the county and help us identify potential sites for renewable energy generation.

What processing of personal data is undertaken by the team?

Your personal data is collated to enable us to contact interested parties and provide them with relevant updates relating to the Community Benefit Society and associated projects.

Personal data will also be gathered from Surrey residents who are able to help us identify potential sites for renewable energy generation.

How we are allowed to use your personal data

To process your personal data, we will explain to you what we are asking you to agree to and why. If we have consent to use your personal data, you have the right to remove it at any time. If you want to remove your consent, please contact us at the following email address greenerfutures@surreycc.gov.uk and we will deal with your request.

Who we share your personal data with

Your personal information will be shared with our partner Community Energy South, and will only be used for the purposes of contacting you in relation to the Community Benefit Society and related energy generation projects.

Community Energy South will mainly be responsible for contacting interested parties, but Surrey County Council staff may contact interested parties as required.

Community Energy South will be using the data for the same purposes as Surrey County, to support the people who may interesting in applying to become founding members and to help with site identification.

Personal data relating to founder member applications will also be shared with the Financial Conduct Authority in order for us to verify eligibility.

Retention of data

Data will be retained for 1 year.
