What is the Learning Disability Partnership Board in Surrey?
The board is a group of people who work together to make the lives of people with a learning disability in Surrey better.
Aims of the Partnership Board
Make sure that there are the right services for people and that they work well.
To talk about ideas for plans in Surrey and the whole country.
To make sure we have plans that are working so people can be equal.
To give information to people about service development so they know what is happening.
To work together to share information between members, organisations and others.
To make sure a strength-based approach is used when planning support.
Who will be members of the Partnership Board?
It is important that all key people who can make change happen are members of the partnership board.
This includes:
people with a learning disability
family carers
Surrey County Council
health organisations
voluntary organisations
members of Surrey People’s Group
Providers
How will the Partnership Board run?
Chairs of the meeting
1 will be a person with a learning disability who people have voted for.
1 will be the Head of Commissioning for Disabilities.
Times
There will be 6 meetings a year.
From 10am to 12.30pm.
Format of the meeting
The meeting papers will be sent out 1 week before the meeting.
It will include:
2 areas of work
experts by experience
The Board will follow Surrey County Council’s Equal Opportunities Policy.
Papers and presentations
Papers and presentation will be in easy read format.
They must be sent to the Engagement and Partnership Office 12 days before the meeting.
They will be sent out to members with the agenda.
Requests to the Partnership Board
If you want something to be talked about at the meeting, contact the Engagement and Partnership Officer who will talk to the chairs.
Responsibilities of Members of the Board
Each member will represent a group.
Each member that represents a group must share information with them and the Board.
Members must go to at least 3 out of 6 meetings.
Election of Members
The co-chair with a learning disability will be elected every 2 years.
The chair and Engagement and Partnership Officer will look at membership every 2 years to make sure the right people are represented.
People needed for the meeting to go ahead
There must be 10 members at the meeting for it to go ahead.
This must include:
chair or deputy chair
person with a learning disability
carer representative
Work Plan
The work plan tells everyone what we will do and what we have done for the year.
It will be updated every year.
It will include feedback from people with a learning disability and carers.
It will be put on the learning disability and autism hub.
Managing the agenda
The Engagement and Partnership Officer will set the agenda from the work plan.
They will meet the co-chairs regularly to review the agenda and work plan.
Supporting people with a learning disability
People with a learning disability will be helped at the meeting by:
getting ready for the meetings
having a clear agenda
offering the chance to talk about things on the agenda before the meeting
use of communication cards
having breaks
sending out presentations before the meeting
using easy read for the agenda, presentations and minutes
providing support at the meeting
making sure simple language is used – no jargon
leaving time between slides to think and for questions
having support after the meeting to talk through topics
Concerns and complaints
Concerns and complaints will be investigated by the chairs of the meeting.
