The Oscarz 2020

Details of the date and venue to be confirmed.

The Oscarz is an annual awards ceremony for looked after children and care leavers. This event is our chance to recognise the hard work looked after children and care leavers may have done throughout the year.

In 2019, 75 young people were welcomed to the event last year and over 100 nominations from workers were received. Young people were given refreshments on arrival, and a buffet was available throughout the evening. Entertainment was provided through a photo booth and face painter. There was also a special performance by a former apprentice within the team, Sophia Hamilton, known as Fiaa.

We are looking forward to the next awards evening taking place later this year.

Surrey Skills Fest

The Surrey Skills Fest is an event run each summer for looked after children and care leavers. It's a bit like a festival with lots of different stalls and the main aims of the day are to have fun and promote independence. Each stall is interactive with a fun activity and teaches you some type of valuable life skill you will need in the future. Some of the stalls that have been run in the past include cooking, health, D.I.Y and budgeting. There's also fun activities to take part in.

The 2019 Surrey Skills Fest took place in Guildford with around 150 children and young people in attendance. The event featured everything from life skills workshops, football, inflatables and face painting to animals and live music!

Skills Fest 2020 was due to take place in July, however following government guidance on the COVID-19 pandemic, the event has unfortunately been cancelled. This was a tough decision to take, however we hope to see you all at Skills Fest 2021!

The YES! Awards 2020

On Friday 28 February 2020 SEND Youth Advisors (SYAS) and The User Voice and Participation Team facilitated the YES! Awards.

The YES! Awards celebrates the achievements of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities in Surrey. The evening was a great success with young people and their families praising how inclusive, well organised and inspirational the event was!

The 2020 YES! Awards was held at Reigate Manor Hotel with 200 people attending the awards ceremony, 70 of whom were children and young people nominated by professionals for their amazing achievements. We'd like to thank everyone who nominated young people for a YES! Award!

'Great to see young people recognised for their wonderful achievements, courageous nature and seeing smiles on their faces was lovely! More praise and events like this should happen! Wonderful!'

The CYA Awards 2019

The CYA Awards is an annual event that celebrates the amazing achievements of children and young people through their journeys with emotional wellbeing and mental health difficulties. It's also a great opportunity for the professionals who work so hard to support young people, to get the recognition they deserve! This event has been running for 10 years and every year it gets better!

Over 350 young people, parents/carers and professionals attended the awards evening on the 25th April 2019 at G Live in Guildford. The evening was full of celebration, fun, food, performances, singing and much, much more! Over 120 people received awards on the evening and over 100 more were nominated and received awards.

CYA members are hugely involved in planning, preparing and facilitating the evening which makes it all the more special! Young people with experience of facing difficulties, celebrating the achievements of other young people's courage as well as their own is truly inspiring.

The rebranded 2020 event, the Empowerment Awards, was due to take place on Friday 24 April 2020, however following government guidance on the COVID-19 pandemic, the event has unfortunately been cancelled. Young people who were nominated will still receive their certificate and award in the post
