Keeping you safe from fire

Keeping you safe from fireWe are working in partnership with key organisations to make sure that vulnerable people in Surrey are kept safe from fire.

Research has shown that people with one or more of the following issues are more at risk from fire:

  • over the age of 60 (risk increases with age especially age 75 and over and significantly increases over age 85)
  • live alone
  • suffer mobility or hearing loss issues
  • have mental health issues including dementia and memory loss
  • have a learning, physical, cognitive or sensory disability
  • have alcohol or drug dependency
  • smokers.

If you, a family member, or someone you care for, is considered more at risk of fire, because they are less able to notice or escape to safety when a smoke alarm goes off, then there's extra protection and support available across Surrey. Most of these services are absolutely free.

Firstly call Surrey Fire and Rescue Services on 0800 085 0767.

They can do a free home safety check. They will then assess what equipment and resources are needed for that person.

View our flyer here to see the kind of equipment they can arrange to install, to help keep vulnerable people safe from fire. These preventative measures can help save lives. For more information visit the Surrey Telecare website.
