Reapplying for school or college travel help

When does travel help end?

The expiry date of your child or young person's travel help is given in the email we sent you to confirm that your application had been accepted.

Please keep a note of this date and reapply before 30 June in the year that your travel help expires.

Children under 16

Travel help usually ends when your child moves to a new school, for example when they go:

  • from infant school to junior school (age 7)
  • from primary school to secondary school (age 11)
  • to a new school for other reasons.

However, there are exceptions, so you need to refer to the expiry date you were given.

Young people aged 16 and over

You must reapply before 30 June each school year. This is because we need to reassess your young person's need for travel help each year.
