1. I have lost my card. What do I need to do?

See replacing or changing your student fare card

2. Can I use a bus student fare card on an Oyster Card bus route?

Bus student fare cards cannot be used on services operated for Transport for London.

3. How far out of the county can I travel?

Your journey must start and/or finish in the administrative county of Surrey. The card is only valid for home to school/college journeys. If you needed to change onto a bus route operating totally out of the county, you would not be able to use the student fare card on this part of your journey. You are able to travel outside the county border with a train student fare card, please see a list of qualifying stations.

4. I am not going to college but doing a paid apprenticeship course. Can I have a student fare card?

People on paid apprenticeships are not eligible for a student fare card.

5. Part of my college course involves me having to travel to a destination other than college. Can I have another card for this purpose?

No. It is not possible to issue more than one student fare card (either bus or train) per student. With a train student fare card the minimum requirement is the purchase of a seven day season ticket which can only be used for one destination.

6. I have sent in my application but I have decided to go to another college. Will I still get my student fare card for the start of term?

This will depend on whether you inform us of the change within the timescales stated to ensure collection from your school or college. We will confirm this to you at the time. Contact the Student Fare Card Team.

7. If I apply for a bus or train card but then I find a better alternative route, can I change my card?

See replacing or changing your student fare card

8. Can my student fare card be sent directly to my home address?

All student fare cards are sent to your school/college to ensure that you are in enrolled at the school/college and in full time education as per the terms and conditions of use.

9. Do I get a discount if I need both bus and train fare cards?

For combination journeys two separate applications will be made, one to the bus company and one to the train company. For this reason each application will carry its own administration fee.

10. How do I apply for a rail card if I live outside the surrey administration area?

Contact your own Local Authority or see the National Rail discount scheme.

11. Can I travel to London with a train student fare card?

The furthest that you are able to travel with a Surrey train student fare card with the discounted rate is Clapham Junction. If you wish to travel further than Clapham Junction then you will need to purchase an additional ticket at the local rate. Please visit Transport for London for full details and ticket prices.
