The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets the statutory standards for learning, development and care for children from birth to five years old that all early years providers must meet. There are seven areas of learning and development, made up of three prime areas and four specific areas. Children are assessed at the end of the EYFS and the level they're expected to achieve is defined by the early learning goals for each area of learning.
Our pages below will help childcare professionals to support children's learning and development in settings. You can also visit our Early Years Foundation Stage guidance page to download templates for planning, observing and documenting individual children's learning and to find information on how to complete the early years review at age two.
