Our online safety course will help you understand common risks when using the internet, including scams, phishing emails, fake websites, unsafe downloads, and protecting your personal information.
You will learn how to use websites, email, social media, online shopping, and digital services more safely. The course focuses on real-world, beginner-friendly activities to help you build safe online habits at home, at work, and when using everyday digital services.
You will also learn how to create strong passwords, use two-factor authentication, manage privacy settings, identify secure websites, protect your devices, and understand your digital footprint.
Enrolments open every term in March, July and November. If courses have already started, you may still be able to join, so please contact us.

Course levels
This course is suitable for beginners and adults with limited confidence using the internet.
It is ideal for anyone who wants to feel safer online, including those who use email, social media, online shopping, or digital services and would like to better understand scams, privacy, safe browsing, and device protection.
Learners should be able to use a computer, mouse, and keyboard before joining this course. If you are completely new to personal computers (PC), please look at our Windows PC Digital Skills and Confidence Stage 1 course first.
Discounts and support with fees
We have many discounts and fee support options. These include money off your first course if you are a library member, Surrey Heritage user, or over 66.
We include a small charge in the fees. It covers the cost of materials used by tutors for demonstrations. The fee does not include the cost of materials and equipment used by learners, unless stated otherwise. If you have any questions, please ask when enrolling. We advise you not to buy extra materials for a course until your enrolment is confirmed.
