Having the right skills and qualifications is more important than ever in today's competitive job market. We have a range of free 'Refresh' courses to increase your confidence and build your skills to help you get the job you want.

Digital knowledge and skills are also such a large part of our lives these days that having skills in how to use and get the best from digital devices is a real benefit, whatever your age or your reason for using technology. Our free Essential Digital Skills courses will help you whether you are looking to upskill for work or simply to be able to communicate and engage more effectively online.

Get that Job - Refresh courses - free

Our free 'Refresh' courses are designed for people who are recently unemployed or about to start their job search and want to refresh and hone their job searching skills. You will learn how to stand out and be noticed by employers in a competitive job market.

These short courses and workshops will help to build your confidence and prepare you for interview success.

Topics include:

  • identifying your skills and qualities, writing a compelling CV, how to search for a job
  • preparing for your interview and taking part in online interviews
  • speculative cover letter writing
  • application forms

We work closely with partners across the National Careers Service, Jobcentre Plus and local job clubs to ensure your needs are met and to help you impress your future employer.

Essential Digital Skills courses - free

Are you finding it difficult to keep up in this increasingly digital world? Don't get left behind!

Take a positive step towards developing your digital skills to help you with work and at home, whether it's using emails and searching for information or learning how to shop or make appointments online.

Our free Essential Digital Skills courses are suitable for people with limited or basic experience of digital devices. At the end of the course you will sit an assessment to achieve your qualification.

After completing a course you will be able to demonstrate your competency in digital literacy skills to your current and future employers and you can add this qualification to your CV, or you can just feel proud of your achievement!

(If you would like to develop your digital skills but do not want to take an assessment, our Henrietta Parker Trust computer courses might suit you).

Course dates and how to enrol

Details of the next Level 1 Essential Digital Skills course:

  • 27 April 2021 to 6 July 2021
  • This is a condensed Level 1 course, running for 10 weeks
  • The course will suit those with some digital skills, looking to develop those skills further for work
  • You are required to attend two evenings a week for a total of 4.5 hours
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7pm to 9.15pm
  • Attendance at all sessions is required to achieve the qualification
  • Informal discussions for enrolment are running from 15 March to 1 April 2021

Details of the next Entry Level 3 Essential Digital Skills course:

  • 27 April 2021 to 6 July 2021
  • This is a condensed Entry 3 Level course, running for 10 weeks
  • You are required to attend two mornings a week for a total of 4.5 hours
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 12:15pm
  • Your tutor will be Jackie Lunn
  • Attendance at all sessions is required to achieve the qualification
  • Informal discussions for enrolment are running from 15 March to 1 April 2021.

Business Admin courses include a basic introduction to admin and the skills, qualities, and experience that you would need to possess to work within an office environment.

English and maths - free

We have courses to help you develop your English and maths skills from short Stepping Stones courses to Functional Skills and GCSE qualifications.

Stepping Stones and Functional Skills courses are free to eligible learners.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) - free

If English is not your first language these courses will help you to improve your English skills so you will have a better chance of finding the right job for you.

Getting to grips with personal finance

These courses are designed to help plan your personal finances and understand how to budget. They explain the importance of good money management and cover inflation/deflation, borrowing and debt and salary deductions.

Henrietta Parker Trust (HPT) courses

A range of courses are provided at a subsidised fee to eligible learners via the Henrietta Parker Trust, offering educational opportunities and to help adults prepare for employment. These include computer skills, sewing and cookery.

Financial support to attend or get the most out of your course

For those up to the age of 25, living in Surrey and enrolling for a course that will improve your employability skills, the Surrey Young People's Fund may be able to provide financial assistance where needed. Grants are available to help with the with the cost of travel, equipment or materials, childcare or even course fees.

Please note the Community Foundation for Surrey is not part of Surrey Adult Learning.
