Course overview

Course intent

Iyengar Yoga is a precise and careful style of yoga, paying strong attention to correct postural alignment and body awareness, so it’s an excellent starting point for those new to Yoga practice.

The intent of the course is to build strength and flexibility using a range of basic and simple postures

What will you learn?

The system of learning Iyengar Yoga is methodical, structured and progressive, emphasising detailed correctness and safety. You will learn:

  • A range of yoga postures (asanas) in standing, seated and lying positions, and how they work in sequence.
  • Breathing exercises (pranayama) and relaxation techniques.

You will be using equipment, such as blocks, or bolsters, to assist you to achieve the posture correctly, at your own pace and to suit your body. Beginners work in a basic way on simple postures according to their capabilities.
