This course will give you the first step tools to obtain the skills and knowledge needed to make a positive impact and make changes to family life.
What will I learn?
This free, two-week online course will help you understand emotional regulation and emotional intelligence You’ll learn how to spot signs of dysregulation and how to use validation to acknowledge feelings. The course introduces healthy coping strategies, explains why co-regulation is important, and encourages you to try at least one practical approach to support your child’s emotional development

How to recognise when your child is dysregulated
How to validate your child’s feelings
Simple coping strategies to use at home
The role of co-regulation
One practical way to support your child’s emotional growth
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
This course is suitable for parents, carers and grandparents of Primary School aged children who live in Surrey and want to have a positive impact on their child’s development. This will be delivered online via Zoom
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
You will need to:
- Have your camera on
- Provide a mobile phone number and email address when you enrol so that we can contact you about your course.
- Please attend all sessions
- A reliable internet connection
- A computer/laptop/tablet or phone with a fully updated browser (preferably Google Chrome), microphone and camera
- A pen and paper
- Check your email for detailed joining instructions two days before course starts.
- Fill out the `Getting to know you` form and fill out `Tell us what you think` form
- Contact us on family.learning@surreycc.gov.uk if you have any questions
What can I do when I finish the course?
At the end of this course, we will give you details of what you may wish to move on to next, for example volunteering, further courses with Surrey Adult Learning, a college or employment

If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
