Course intent

Make your own set of textured silver stacking rings. Learn how to design and make a ring that fits you or create a beautiful gift for someone you love.

What will I learn?

You will learn the skills needed to design and make a textured ring including:

  • measuring, marking, cutting, soldering, texturing and forming the metal
  • create a wide range of different textures on copper sheet
  • Sawing, filing, soldering, polishing
  • safe working practices in the jewellery studio
  • If you already have some experience, you will build on existing skills and learn new techniques to be able to design and create your own bespoke ring

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

Beginners and Improvers (those with some jewellery making experience). If you are new to jewellery making, this is the perfect beginners’ project building basic skills and allowing for your own design input to create a silver stacking rings. If you have some experience, you will be challenged to develop and work on your own designs and refine your skills.

An ability to read and follow instructions will be helpful as well as an ability to measure and do simple calculations. Jewellery making involves a lot of fine work so having steady hands will help.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

You need to bring:

  • a notebook or sketchbook and pencil to record the processes
  • you may want to bring a camera to take photographs of your work as it progresses
  • bring any other precious metal you would like to use, for example gold
  • It is essential that you wear strong closed-toe shoes (not sandals or flip flops). An apron and/or wearing old clothes is strongly advised. Long hair will need to be tied back in the jewellery studios
  • A packed lunch or refreshments

Please be aware that access to the jewellery studio and nearby toilets is via stairs, and there are also steps inside the studio itself.

Please note: The cost of this workshop includes silver and findings where applicable. Silver prices fluctuate with the metal market, and it may be necessary to increase the sundry costs to cover further increases. Any changes will only be made when absolutely necessary. No increase will be charged after you have enrolled on this course/workshop.

What can I do when I finish the course?

We offer a range of jewellery and silverwork classes during the week including evening classes at both Guildford and Woking.
