Course intent
This is a five-week course studying the fascinating history of the Duchesses of Gloucester.
What will I learn?
In this course we look at the present Duchess of Gloucester’s predecessors including Eleanor Cobham who was convicted of practising witchcraft, Princess Mary, daughter of King George III and Queen Charlotte and Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester, the longest-lived member of the British royal family.
The Dukedom of Gloucester was first created in 1385 for a son of King Edward III and, his wife, the first duchess was a daughter of one of England’s wealthiest noblemen.
