Course Intent

Develop your maths skills by taking part in group discussions and activities to enable you to be more confident when using maths in your everyday life.

What will we cover?

During this course, you will have the opportunity to:

Enhance independent living skills by becoming financially aware and learning to manage money matters.

Read and write number names.

Arrange digits in order of size and understand ordinal numbers.

Identify words and symbols used for addition and subtraction.

Add or subtract single-digit numbers up to 10.

Use a calculator to check answers.

Identify the names and values of coins and notes for amounts between 1 and 10.

Use vocabulary related to times of the day.

Tell the time in both o’clock and digital formats.

Use travel timetables to develop evaluation and problem-solving skills.

State and order the days of the week, months, and seasons of the year.

Identify and compare familiar objects by size, weight, and length.

Describe familiar objects using appropriate vocabulary related to size, weight, and length.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course is for Entry Level learners with a learning disability, it is designed to help learners progress from their individual starting point to build confidence, independence, and social skills for everyday life.

You need to complete a literacy and numeracy initial assessment prior to enrolling on this course.

You must be able to follow guidance on health and safety and be ready to work as part of a group.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

Bring a pen and reading glasses if you use them.

What can I do when I finish the course?

After this course you could progress to another supported learning course, or further courses with Surrey Adult Learning. We will meet with you to give information, advice, and guidance on your next step.

Additional information

Bring a drink or money to buy refreshments during a short break.

Carers and/or family members supporting in the class will be required to follow our guidelines and acknowledge they have read our Personal Assistant Agreement.
