About Pathway to Wellbeing
Pathway to Wellbeing offers free, supportive courses for learners with mild to moderate mental health conditions that impact daily life. Delivered in a nurturing environment, the programme helps you build new skills, boost confidence, and enjoy a positive weekly focus.
Courses are designed to support recovery and complement existing self-care or treatment. Conditions may include anxiety, low mood, PTSD, OCD, or phobias.
Self-referrals are welcome, and you will be invited to an informal appointment to ensure the course is right for you.
Course intent

Discover the world of mixed media art in this dynamic and inspiring course. Mixed media art is a versatile and exciting form of artistic expression that combines a range of materials and creative techniques to develop unique and visually captivating artworks. This course will introduce you to the fundamentals of mixed media art, with a focus on colour, pattern design, collage, and simple printmaking techniques together with creating small books and journals.
The intent of this course is for you to learn creative techniques using painting, drawing, collage and printmaking, to make your own artworks and through this help you improve your sense of wellbeing.
This course is part of our Pathway to Wellbeing programme for adults to support them as they rediscover their mental and emotional balance and to help them live healthy, active lives.

What will I learn?
This course offers guidance to help you create artworks using a range of different art media, and techniques, in the classroom and at home.
By the end of the course, you will:
- Experiment with various colour palettes and combinations
- Use a range of techniques for mark-making and creating patterns.
- Use various sources for inspiration such as contemporary artists, online search, and other sources.
- Create your own artworks or sketchbooks journals for your own portfolio or to proudly display at home.
- Experiment with approaches to wellbeing that can be integrated into your daily life
You will start by creating your own decorative papers using gelli plates and other painting and relief printing techniques. You will practise Colour mixing and experiment with various materials and tools for mark making, as you progress on to creating your own collage designs. Additionally you will have the opportunity to make simple folded structures that will take sketches, painted images or collage in the form of a journal or sketchbook.

However if you missed the start of this term and you want to join the next group please contact pathway.wellbeing@surreycc.gov.uk with your enquiry and a member of the team will be in touch about how to get into the next group. We also welcome enquiries from professionals.
Existing Pathway to Wellbeing learners will be contacted by the Curriculum Team towards the end of term with next steps.
You can enrol by phone (0300 200 1044) or at one of our centres. Once enrolled, you will be invited to a one-to-one appointment to ensure the programme is right for you, explain what to expect, answer any questions, and signpost additional support if needed.
