About us

Here at Surrey Adult Learning we believe that everyone can learn new skills and grow in confidence no matter their age or ability. Even if your school days weren't a success or you haven't been in a classroom for a long time, returning to learning as an adult can be enjoyable and rewarding!

Our Community Outreach courses are short introductory courses which will help you develop your confidence. We are particularly here for you if you are facing life challenges.

You'll have the opportunity to gain useful life skills, improve your wellbeing, but more importantly grow your self-belief and realise your potential. You will also get the opportunity to meet new people and feel part of a community.

You don't need qualifications to enrol onto our courses. Our team will support you to learn to the best of your ability and help you to progress. Next steps might include further learning, help with job prospects and wellbeing support.


Our Community Outreach courses are free if you:

  • are aged 19 years or over on 31 August 2022,
  • are resident in England
  • meet UK residency requirements and
  • are facing life challenges such as:
    • long-term unemployment
    • low confidence in your own abilities or self-esteem
    • adjusting to life after being in care
    • discrimination
    • social isolation
    • other barriers to learning, for example fees.

If you are experiencing mild-moderate mental health condition you might like to consider our free Passport to Wellbeing programme.

Our Community Outreach courses are free if you:

  • are a UK national who has lived in the UK for at least the three full years prior to the start of your course
  • are an European Economic Area (EEA) national who has obtained either pre-settled or settled status under the EU settlement scheme and have lived continuously in the EEA, Gibraltar or UK for at least the three full years prior to the start of your course.
  • are not a UK, nor an EEA national, but have either permission granted by the UK government to live in the UK or have obtained pre-settled or settled status under the EU settlement scheme and have lived continuously in the UK for at least the three full years prior to starting your course.

You can also join if you:

  • Are an Asylum seeker who has lived in the UK for 6 months or longer while your claim is being considered by the Home Office.
  • Have the one of the following immigration statuses:
    • Refugee status
    • Discretionary leave to enter or remain
    • Exceptional leave to enter or remain
    • Indefinite leave to enter or remain
    • Humanitarian protection
    • Leave outside the rules
    • Ukraine family scheme
    • Ukraine sponsorship scheme (Homes for Ukraine)
    • Or you are the husband, wife, civil partner or child (aged 19 or over) of an individual with any of the above
    • Section 67 of the Immigration Act 2016 leave
    • Calais leave to remain
    • British Nationals evacuated from Afghanistan under operation pitting
    • British Nationals evacuated from Afghanistan by UK government before 6 January 2022

Confident you

This workshop w will help you to identify stress triggers, become more confident with the choice you make and learn techniques to manage and reduce stress. One session workshop on Tuesday 8 November, 9.30am to 11.30am.

Stress less

This workshop will help reduce stress related illness, increase your energy levels and allow you to take control of your responses to life events. One session workshop on Tuesday 15 November, 9.30am to 11.30am

A Quiet mind

This workshop will help you control your thought patterns, improve your self-esteem and learn valuable relaxation techniques.

Tai Chi for stress release

Learn how to notice stress locations in body be introduced to stress relieving movement and breathing activity to help you relax and unwind. Three week course starting on Thursday 10 November, 3.45pm to 4.45pm.

Tai Chi to increase energy

Develop your awareness of the positive impacts of Tai Chi physical exercises, breathing techniques and the connection between these with your inner energy to feel revitalised and ready for the world! Three week course starting on Thursday 1 December, 3.45pm to 4.45pm

Yoga for better sleep

During this short course you will find a comfortable relaxation position, practise at least 2 breathing techniques and perform some simple Yoga postures. By the end of the course, you will be able to use relaxation, breathing and gentle movements to help you get a better night's sleep. Three-week course starting on Thursday 24 November, 9:30am to 11am.

Partnership Work

We work in partnership with a variety of organisations including Job Centre Plus, foodbanks, community hubs, charities, mental health organisations and supported housing services and community groups. We offer tailored courses and workshops to meet the needs of your clients to improve their lives. Please get in touch if we can help.
