Surrey Adult Learning (SAL) is proud to be present in the local Community, offering a range of tailored courses that are designed to appeal to local residents and inspire people to take part in our activities.
Recently, SAL has been engaging with residents in Woking and Camberley who live in Independent Living facilities – offering presentations of SAL's activities and the benefits for new Learners, including the Government driven "Get Active for Surrey 50+" promotion.
The aim of this incentive was to reach out to residents who would not naturally go on-line to enquire about a course and to promote SAL from the comfort of their residences, encouraging them to get out and about in a safe and friendly setting.
Our staff spent time listening to residents and introducing them to the tailored courses that they may find interesting and of value, such as, cookery, basic iPad, watercolours, flower arranging, pottery and Tai Chi.
The presentations proved popular and even resulted in many residents living in the Woking residence visiting the Woking Adult Learning Centre for tea and to drop in to classes taking place there at the time. This in turn sparked greater interest and enrolment on our courses.
There was a considerable interest in Tai Chi; however the learners were not able to reach the centre in Woking. Our Curriculum Team were fantastic and quickly organised an off site SAL course at the residence. This reinforces our commitment to working with our learners in a flexible way and offering a bespoke course to meet the needs of this group of learners.
