Councillor Mary Lewis; Peter Milton Head of Cultural Services; Ann Chalton Director of Legal, Democratic and Cultural Services and Principal Paul Hoffman all attended the preview evening of the Surrey Adult Learning Learner Summer Exhibition at the Harvey Gallery at the Guildford Centre on Tuesday 28thJune 2016.
This vibrant occasion presented Learners and Tutors the opportunity to showcase their work, over the academic year, across the range of courses offered by the service and celebrate not only achievement but the commitment of Surrey Adult Learning to deliver quality courses across the seven centres in Surrey.
Councillor Lewis congratulated all the Learners and Tutors for their effort and a big thanks to the Harvey Gallery Committee and all staff who had worked hard to make such an event possible.
Councillor Lewis brings a career of teaching expertise in her Councillor role and understands the challenges of teaching and the joy of sweet success which is the fruit of perseverance.
She shared with the guests “how my heart is in education”, how proud she was of Surrey Adult Learning’s positive Ofsted report; which validates the commitment of our qualified Tutors, solid lessons plans, differentiated individual learning plans and the motivation for continuous improvement. The inclusion of supported learners’ work was recognised and given praise as Surrey Adult Learning continues to embrace the values of equality and diversity.
Councillor Lewis referred to the three strategic priorities of Surrey County Council; wellbeing, economic priority and resident experience and she was delighted to say the department achieved in all areas.
Paul Hoffman, Principal of Surrey Adult Learning, also commended both Learners and Tutors for putting on a superb show and highlighted the “feel good” factor of the evening.
Councillor Lewis and Paul Hoffman distributed certificates to Learners who were highly commended, 2D painting winners, 3D painting winners, the Surrey Adult Learning Photography competition and the Best in the Show award.
