Italian Tutor cooks up delicious lesson for Learners

Surrey Adult Learning is proud to offer our Learners teaching excellence. It's the motivation and inspiration of our Tutors that helps make Surrey Adult Learning a unique and special learning experience.

Our Tutor, Anna Prosperi-Flaviani, who has taught with Surrey Adult Learning for nearly nine years, currently teaches Italian Stage 3 upwards at the Camberley Centre.

Anna is an Italian native and a qualified Teacher. She is innovative and resourceful, using attractive themes to teach the language and making her lessons not only culturally informative but embedding the grammar and language skills within her lessons.

We met with her to hear how she's been engaging our Learners and enriching their learning.

Anna gives Learners food for thought

Learners enjoy an authentic al fresco Italian night with Surrey Adult Learning.Tutor Anna recently prepared a tasty and fun lesson for our Italian Learners at the Camberley Centre.

She decided to combine teaching an Italian cookery dish – risotto, in parallel with her lessons!

Prior to the class, Learners studied the five risotto recipes as homework, with the grammar all based on verbs used in the kitchen and recipes. The recipes were either pumpkin, mushrooms, Dolcelatte, courgettes or lemon. All vegetarians were therefore catered for, and the two vegans of the group were able to eat all but the Dolcelatte – a type of Italian blue soft cheese.

The Learners were able to practise and reinforce their vocabulary and grammar in this Italian kitchen-style setting, which made the learning feel authentic and useful.

Many Learners commended the Tutor and everyone had a fun time!

Fascinating talk brings Italy to life

Art Curator and Surrey Adult Learner, Luciano Cassara, speaking to Italian Learners at the Camberley Centre.Anna recently arranged a talk for our Italian Learners at the Camberley Centre, illustrating her passion and flair for bringing Italy "alive".

The talk was given by Luciano Cassara, who studies French at the Camberley Centre, and who is an Art Curator by profession.

The two paintings displayed in the photo are originals of the abstract art of Sicilian painter Giuseppe Ciccia.

Trips to Italy – the perfect place to practise

Finally, the Tutor extends her classroom experience by organising trips to Italy for Surrey Adult Learners.

Possible destinations include Turin, in Northern Italy. These trips allow our Learners unrestricted practice of their Italian language skills.

Grazie Anna from Surrey Adult Learning!
