Southern Gas Network (SGN) works - Fairmile Lane, Cobham

SGN will be replacing ageing metal gas mains with new plastic pipework in Fairmile Lane, Cobham. This essential work will help ensure a safe and reliable gas supply for local homes and businesses.

Programme of works

• Start date: 22 July 2026
• Expected duration: Approximately 6 weeks
• Expected completion: Early September 2026 (subject to weather and operational conditions)

Traffic management

• To carry out the work safely, sectional road closures will be introduced as the work progresses along Fairmile Lane.
• Access for residents and businesses within the closure will be maintained wherever possible.
• A signed diversion route will be in place via:

1. Portsmouth Road
2. High Street
3. Mill Road
4. Stoke Road
5. Leigh Hill Road
6. Fairmile Lane

• Traffic management will only be used where necessary to ensure the safety of the workforce and everyone using the road.

Additional information

• Access will be maintained for residents and businesses within the closed section.
• If you have specific access requirements, please speak to the site team who will be happy to help where possible.
• Please inform visitors and delivery drivers that diversion routes will be in place.
• If you use local bus services, please check with your bus operator before travelling for any temporary changes to bus stops or timetables.
• Please allow extra time for your journey while these works are underway.

Southern Gas Network (SGN) works - East Street and Hook Road, Epsom

SGN will be carrying out essential gas infrastructure works in Epsom to support the development of new homes and help ensure the continued safety and reliability of the local gas network.

To minimise disruption, SGN is coordinating its works with Surrey Highways, who will be replacing the traffic signal system at the High Street and Upper High Street junction. The project will also include essential upgrades to traffic signals around East Street and High Street, Epsom from 20 July to 20 August.

Programme of works

• Start date: 18 July 2026
• Expected completion: End of 2026
• Duration: Phased works throughout 2026
• Surrey Highways traffic signal works will begin on 20 July 2026 and will take place within the same traffic management arrangement as the SGN works.

Traffic management

Hook Road will be closed between Woodstock Crescent and East Street.

• Multi-way temporary traffic signals will be in operation on East Street.
• A signed diversion route will be in place.
• Access for residents and businesses will be maintained throughout the works.
• The multi-storey car park will remain open and accessible via Hook Road, with traffic management in place.
• Temporary parking restrictions will be introduced around the works area where required.
• What residents and road users need to know
• Access for residents within the closure will be maintained.
• Please notify visitors and delivery drivers that road closures and diversion routes will be in place.
• Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
• If you have specific access requirements, including assistance for disabled residents, please speak to the site team who will be happy to help where possible.

Construction works at the junction of Studios Road, Squire's Bridge Road and New Road, Shepperton

Summary: Shepperton Studios have a history dating back to 1931. They have had extension works ongoing since 2023. The development makes Shepperton Studios the second biggest film studio in the world with a total of 31 purpose-built sound stages alongside additional production accommodation, the whole site covering 1.5 million square feet. The completion of Shepperton is intended to allow incredible new shows, jobs and a boost for the economy.

Duration and Impact: Offline works (construction taking place that requires no traffic management) have been ongoing since 17 June 2024. This offline work is scheduled to take 12 weeks to complete. Traffic management will then be in place after this stage (around mid-September 2024) and will last approximately 24 weeks. This will be done to ensure the safety of road users and all other stakeholders.

Thames Water Works - Guildford Road

Thames Water will be carrying out major water network upgrade works on Guildford Road as part of their long-term investment programme to reduce leakage and improve the reliability of water supplies across Thames Valley and London.

Programme of works

The works will be completed in phases, starting near the junction with Smithwood Common Road and progressing along Guildford Road towards Cranleigh.

To help complete the works more efficiently and reduce overall disruption:

• From February 2026, Thames Water will operate with two site teams working along Guildford Road
• Temporary traffic lights will be in operation during the works
• Emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times

Working hours

• Monday to Friday: 8am to 5pm
• Saturday: 8am to 1pm

In some instances, it may be necessary to temporarily turn off water supplies. If this is required, affected customers will be contacted directly in advance with further details.

Southern Gas Network (SGN) works - A 22 Godstone Road, Whyteleafe

SGN will be carrying out essential gas network replacement works in Whyteleafe. The existing ageing metal gas mains will be replaced with new polyethylene pipework to help ensure a safe and reliable gas supply for homes, businesses and industry.

These works are being delivered in phases along Godstone Road and Salmons Lane

Programme of works

Godstone Road phase:

• Start date: 20 July 2026
• Expected completion: December 2026

Salmons Lane phase:

• Start date: 2 November 2026
• Duration: Approximately 6 weeks

Traffic management

• Temporary closure of Whyteleafe Hill
• Bus stop on Godstone Road will be suspended during works in this phase. Passengers are advised to check with their bus operator for updates.
• The junction with Godstone Road (level crossing) will be closed while works are carried out
• A signed diversion route will be in place
• Access for residents and businesses will be maintained
• What residents and road users need to know
• Access will be maintained for properties within the closure areas wherever possible.
• Residents with specific access requirements are encouraged to speak to the site engineers.
• Parking bays close to the works may need to be temporarily suspended during certain phases.
• Bus passengers are advised to check with their local operator for any temporary changes, delays or suspended stops.
• Motorists should allow additional time for journeys while these works are underway.

Godstone updates

A25, Godstone currently is closed in both directions due a large sinkhole. SES water, SGN and UK Power Networks are currently working on site.

While the situation is stabilising, it will be treated as an ongoing significant incident, which means all agencies in Surrey working closely to focus on supporting residents and moving to repair and recovery.

We understand the disruption and uncertainty this is causing residents and those traveling near the area. We will continue to update this page as the works continue.

Diversion routes

The diversion route for the road closure is A25 Oxted Road, A22 Godstone Bypass, Eastbourne Road. This diversion route has also been symbolised to reduce the confusion for the motorists. We are ensuring that parking restrictions are in place on Eastbourne Road from Monday onwards for the end of half term when we expect traffic levels to increase.

Properties in the wider area now have access to water and power as normal and the impacted homes are confined within the cordon. More permanent repairs will be carried out once the site is deemed safe to work in.

Oxted Road ( A25) is expected to be down to 1 set of lights soon as SES Water have completed and replaced the mains valve opposite/ adjacent to Salisbury Road, on the Eastbound side of the A25. The set further up will stay in situ as this is allowing a standpipe to vent the smaller main being used to replace the supply of the larger one in the High Street. Traffic impact on these lights has been minimal as reported after Streetworks officer's visit,

SES Water have confirmed that water had been restored to properties within RH1 and RH9.

Closure of Bullbeggars Lane and Church Lane

Due to the traffic on Eastbourne Road, towards the A22 queuing back to Church Lane, Bullbeggars Lane and Church Lane have now been closed.

SGN Works - Bramley and Shalford, Waverley

SGN (Southern Gas Network) are undertaking gas network upgrade works across Shalford and Bramley. These works form part of SGN’s long-term programme to replace ageing metal gas mains with modern plastic pipes, helping to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply for local homes and businesses.

The project is scheduled to begin on Monday 23 March and is expected to last approximately 35 weeks, with works being delivered in phases along Chinthurst Lane and the A281 Horsham Road.

Chinthurst Lane, Shalford

Start: Monday 23 March

Duration: Approximately 10 weeks

Traffic management: Rolling road closure in sections between The Common and around 100m past Poplar Road

• The closure will move along the road as works progress.
• Poplar Road will also need to be closed at its junction with Chinthurst Lane for approximately two weeks when works reach this section.

A281 Horsham Road, Bramley to Shalford

Start: Tuesday 7 April

Duration: Approximately 32 weeks

Traffic management: Temporary traffic lights moving along the route as works progress

Works will run from the junction with Snowdenham Lane/Station Road (Bramley) to just short of Broadford Road (Shalford).

To help manage traffic flow:

• Side roads will be closed one at a time as works pass each junction:
  Snowdenham Lane, Links Road and Foxburrow Hill Road
• Additional signal heads may be installed at some junctions.
• Manual control of the traffic lights will be in place Monday to Saturday, 7am–7pm to reduce congestion.
• SGN will also be trialling Remotely Operated Signals (REMOS) smart traffic signals, which adjust timings in real time based on traffic levels.

Thames Water works – Knowle Lane, Cranleigh

Thames Water will be carrying out essential water mains replacement works on Knowle Lane. These works form part of Thames Water’s ongoing investment programme to replace ageing water infrastructure with new, high-strength plastic pipework to help improve reliability, reduce leaks and minimise future bursts.

Programme of works

• Start date: 25 May 2026
• Expected completion: 18 September 2026
• Location: Knowle Lane between Wildwood Lane and the watercourse approximately 300m south of Lions Lane
• Working hours:
  • Monday to Saturday: 7am to 7pm
  • Sunday: 9am to 1pm
• The works will be completed in phases to help maintain local access where possible throughout the project.

Traffic management

• Rolling road closures will be in place as works progress along the route
• Signed diversion routes will remain in operation throughout all phases of the works
• Access to properties within the closure area will be maintained where safe to do so
• Traffic management arrangements have been agreed with the local authority
• Road users are advised to allow additional time for journeys while these works are underway.

Additional information

• Thames Water has advised that temporary interruptions to water supply may occasionally be necessary during the works
• Affected customers will be notified at least 48 hours in advance if any interruption is required
• Any planned loss of supply is expected to last no longer than three hours
• Thames Water has confirmed they will aim to minimise noise disruption, particularly during early mornings, evenings and weekends
• Works are expected to pause temporarily during a local event scheduled for the end of June to reduce disruption in the area

Murphy Group Electrical Upgrade - West Byfleet Primary substation - Sheerwater

Utility network improvement works are taking place between West Byfleet Primary Substation and the Sheerwater area in Woking. These works form part of ongoing investment in the local electricity network to improve reliability and capacity for homes and businesses.

Programme of works:

Start: 25 April 2026 – September 2026

Duration: approximately 20 weeks

To ensure the safety of pedestrians, road users and members of the public, traffic management measures will be in place during these works, including but not limited to:

• 2 x way signals
• Multi way signals
• Road closures / lane closures
• Temporary pedestrian crossings

The works will be completed in phases, commencing from 25 April 2026 near Paragon Roundabout / Chertsey Road, before heading along Martyrs Lane, Woodham Avenue, Sheerwater Rd and Woodlands Avenue, with completion expected in Autumn 2026.

Additional Information:

• Emergency vehicle access, refuse collections and property access will be maintained at all times.
• Recycling centre will remain open and access will be maintained.
