Frequently asked questions
Why has it taken so long to get the bridge scheduled for repair?
The bridge is grade 2 listed and this requires us to agree to specific methods of restoration and the use of a specialist contractor. We had run into several issues during the tendering process, which have now been resolved.
The work also requires that we obtain Environment Agency consent to ensure that when we are undertaking repairs the work does not increase flood risk or harm to the environment. At present, this means that we cannot undertake any works in the river until Summer 2021 when fish spawning season has ended.
How long will the works take?
We anticipate the duration of this scheme to be approximately six weeks.
Will the road be closed during the scheme?
Yes, Squire's Bridge Road will be closed. A signed diversion will be in place during this closure.
Will there be pedestrian access?
Yes, pedestrian access will be maintained.
